RNAseq analysis of Rhodobacter sphaeroides transition from aerobic to anaerobic growth

Rhodobacter sphaeroides is a purple bacterium capable of chemoheterotrophic growth in the absence of light and presence of oxygen. Under anaerobic conditions and in the presence of light, Rhodobacter sphaeroides can grow phototrophically. In this experiment, Rhodobacter sphaeroides was grown heterotrophically and then switched to phototrophic growth by turning the bioreactor anaerobic. Samples were taken regularly after transition to low oxygen conditions to determine the transcriptomic response to changes in growth mode.
