The purpose of the paper “The Modern Principle of ‘Self-Belief’ and the Bondage of The Will” is to call into the question the illusion of ‘self-belief’ and reveal true biblical faith, based on the arguments of Martin Luther’s book “On the Bondage of the Will”. ‘Self-belief’ as a modern lifestyle principle has falsely created hope for a better life and destroyed the desire for salvation in many people. The object of research is human free will as a possible tool for achieving salvation and a better life. The author explains Luther’s arguments using a graphic theological interpretation that could be used in discussions with ‘self-belief’ adepts and apologists. The author concludes that the kind of preaching and Christian message we need today is the ‘Luther-type’ unequivocal directness of God’s Scripture to the enslaved of sin, where Christ gives divine forgiveness, clarity, and assurance.
