Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a globally prevalent condition that poses a significant health burden, necessitating early diagnosis and intervention to improve patient outcomes. The gut microbiota has been implicated in CKD, yet there is still a lack of well-defined microbial and functional biomarkers associated with disease progression. In this study, we performed a population-scale metagenome-wide analysis of the gut microbiome of 745 CKD patients across stages 2 to 5, and 336 non-CKD normal controls.
