In a conventional μSR experiment, there is no control of the interactions and hence the positron asymmetry data are passively recorded in order to infer the muon’s interaction with its local environment. The present proposal is aimed at launching an experimental programme to directly control muon-coupled spin systems. The first step is to establish that RF excitation applied to muons implanted in single-crystal, oriented CaF2 can be used to control the entangled spin states of the muon-coupled spin system. CaF2 is deliberately chosen because the nuclear spins on the Ca2+ ions can be ignored and the muon cleanly couples to the network of fluorine ions in a well-defined manner.
