The goal of this study was to determine whether different probe sets and enrichment protocols impact the performance of target-enriched long-read sequencing (TELSeq) for detection and characterization of antimicrobial resistance genes and mobile genetic elements from total extracted metagenomic DNA. Replicates of four diverse sample types were used for the analysis (bovine feces, human fecal microbial transplant materials, pristine prairie soil, and a commercially available mock community). Replicates of each sample were subjected to different probe sets and enrichment protocols, and then subjected to long-read sequencing on the PacBio platform. Non-enriched replicates were also subjected to PacBio sequencing for comparison purposes.
