Contemporary Chinese Village Gazetteer Data (CCVG Data) 数字村庄

Village gazetteers are among the most important primary sources for the study of Chinese village history and development. Gazetteers contain copious information on a village's administration, economy, culture, education, dialect, etc. that often cannot be found elsewhere. Contemporary Chinese Village Gazetteer Data (CCVG Data, 数字村庄) is a project initiated by the University Library System to collect data from village gazetteers and present it in open-access datasets, supporting teaching and research on Chinese village history and development. The data coverage period is 1949 to the present, though the final year of coverage for each village varies due to varying gazetteer compilation and publication dates. There are 18 datasets included in CCVG Data: Gazetteer Information; Village Information; Natural Environment; Natural Disasters; Year of First Availability; Last Names; Ethnic Groups; Population and Migration; Military, Politics and Management; Economy; Family Planning; Education. All are available for free download. For user’s convenience, CCVG Data is bilingual (Chinese/English). Data collection began in August 2018; by June 2020, data on 1,000 villages had been collected and entered into a customized platform to create the datasets. CCVG Data’s goal is to collect and input data on 2,500 to 3,000 villages by the end of 2021. Data will be updated every four to six months, with updated datasets offered in .csv format for download. A website supporting this dataset, including a data dictionary, information on the data structure, citation information, as well as a CCVG Data Map is established.

村志是探究中国乡村历史与发展进程的关键原始史料之一。村志中蕴含着大量关于村落行政、经济、文化、教育、方言等其他渠道鲜有记载的信息。当代中国村志数据集（Contemporary Chinese Village Gazetteer Data，简称CCVG Data，又名数字村庄）是由高校图书馆系统发起的项目，旨在采集村志相关数据并以开放获取数据集的形式发布，为中国乡村历史与发展相关的教学与研究提供支撑。该数据集的覆盖时段为1949年至今，但由于各村志的编纂与出版时间存在差异，不同村落的资料覆盖终止年份各有不同。CCVG Data共包含18个数据集，涵盖村志信息、村落基本信息、自然环境、自然灾害、首次收录年份、姓氏源流、族群构成、人口与迁徙、军事政治与治理、经济发展、计划生育、教育事业等类别。所有数据集均可免费下载。为方便用户使用，CCVG Data提供中英双语支持。数据采集工作始于2018年8月；截至2020年6月，项目组已完成1000个村落的相关数据采集，并将其录入定制化平台以构建数据集。CCVG Data的目标是在2021年底前完成2500至3000个村落的数据采集与录入工作。数据集每4至6个月更新一次，更新后的数据集将以.csv格式提供下载。项目配套搭建了专属网站，其中包含数据字典、数据结构说明、引用规范以及CCVG Data地图等内容。
