Our lab reported the isolation of a bacterial strain, 17-2-E-8, identified recently as Devosia epimeris, that is capable of bio-transforming deoxynivalenol (DON) aerobically. The transformation is reproducible under wide-range of conditions with 100% efficiency. Next-generation de novo genome assembly of D. epimeris is being used to identify clusters of genes that are possibly responsible for the bio-transformation activity.
