Trends and group characteristics of medical professional-patient social mentality in China (2018~2024)

This dataset was used to investigate the medical professional-patient social mentality in 2018 and 2024, including responses from both medical professionals and patients. The uploaded file contains two sheets: the "date" sheet includes all raw data, while the "code" sheet provides all coding information.The survey employed subscales from the China Medical Professional-Patient Social Mentality Questionnaire and the China Physician-Patient Trust Scale developed by Lyu Xiaokang et al., with both instruments having separate versions for physicians and patients. Data collection was conducted in two phases: from July 2017 to August 2018 (referred to as the 2018 wave) and from November 2023 to August 2024 (referred to as the 2024 wave), using a combination of online and offline methods. In both waves, the samples covered over 270 prefecture-level cities across all 31 provincial-level administrative regions (provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities) in mainland China, allowing for a reasonable reflection of the basic characteristics and recent changes in medical professional-patient social mentality. After applying unified screening criteria, the two waves were merged, resulting in a final dataset comprising 30,343 respondents.
