Dataset and research materials for: New releases or catalog? The power of film age among Netflix Spain's most-watched titles (2021–2026)

This repository contains the dataset and research materials associated with the study "New releases or catalog? The power of film age among Netflix Spain's most-watched titles (2021–2026)." The study examines the role of film age in the visibility of films appearing in Netflix Spain's weekly Top 10 rankings between 28 June 2021 and 15 March 2026. The final dataset contains 1,181 unique films, derived from 2,460 weekly Top 10 appearances published by Netflix Tudum. The dataset was enriched through automated metadata retrieval using the Open Movie Database (OMDb) API, which provides structured information derived primarily from IMDb. The repository includes the final dataset, a variable dictionary, documentation of the data collection procedure, the Python script used to retrieve metadata through the OMDb API, the statistical analysis script used to conduct the ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests, software requirements, and licensing information. These materials are provided in accordance with Open Science principles to facilitate transparency, reproducibility, and the reuse of the data in future research on streaming platforms, audiovisual catalogs, and film visibility.
