Adaptive Wireless Mesh Protocol, A Next Generation Alternative to Wireless Ethernet

This record presents a prototype implementation of the Adaptive Wireless Mesh Protocol (AWMP), a proposed wireless alternative to traditional Ethernet designed to deliver scalable, adaptable, and energy-efficient network connectivity using Software-Defined Radio (SDR) and mesh networking. AWMP aims to overcome the limitations of Ethernet and Wi-Fi in high-density, dynamic environments by leveraging SDR capabilities for real-time frequency agility, adaptive power management, and flexible modulation. Through a decentralized, self-healing mesh topology, AWMP nodes dynamically adjust transmission parameters to optimize connectivity, minimize interference, and conserve energy, making it suitable for diverse applications, from industrial IoT to smart cities. This prototype includes: 1. Detailed setup and configuration guidelines for SDR hardware, including device recommendations (USRP, HackRF One, LimeSDR). 2. SDR software environment setup instructions utilizing GNU Radio and OpenAirInterface, along with a lightweight SDR protocol stack for frequency and modulation adaptation. 3. Implementation of mesh networking libraries (BATMAN-adv or OLSR) to facilitate self-healing, decentralized routing, and protocol translation for Ethernet compatibility. 4. Testing scenarios and performance metrics, including energy efficiency, throughput, latency, and packet delivery ratio, under varying environmental conditions. The AWMP prototype offers a framework for further exploration into next-generation wireless connectivity, providing compatibility with Ethernet for seamless hybrid deployment. The record includes source code, technical configurations, and performance data to assist researchers and developers in exploring and extending AWMP’s capabilities.
