Rue par Rue: A National Database of Person-Commemorative Street Names and Municipal-Level Indicators in France

Rue par Rue is a research-oriented public database describing whom French streets commemorate and how symbolic representation differs across municipalities. Version 1.0.0 contains a nationwide registry of 2,701,557 active street records across 34,900 commune codes, reproducible person-name annotations, Wikidata-derived biographical attributes, address-weighted municipal indicators, mapped representative street points, validation outputs, and a priority human-review queue. The registry draws on French public administrative sources, principally DGFiP TOPO/TOPAD, the Base Adresse Nationale (BAN), INSEE’s Code officiel géographique, and IGN BD TOPO, with public authority information from Wikidata, BnF, and IdRef. Detailed provenance, reuse terms, field definitions, and checksums are included in the release. Project website: https://www.rueparrue.com Quality note: automated candidate generation and scoring do not mean that every proposed identity has been human verified. Only high-confidence Wikidata matches are promoted automatically; ambiguous, coordinated, lower-confidence, and unmatched names remain explicitly identifiable. A 517-observation, address-weighted queue is included for community review. Users should retain confidence, evidence, provenance, and review-status fields. The primary commune-level denominator is the complete street registry. Map-geometry coverage is reported separately so that analytical results are not silently restricted to streets with matched geometry.
