Domestic waste emissions to European freshwaters 1990 - 2016 (v. 1.0)

Mean annual domestic waste emissions (Population Equivalent, 5-days Biochemical Oxygen Demand BOD5, Nitrogen and Phosphorus) to freshwater network from 1990 to 2016. Estimation of domestic waste emissions to waters is needed for pollution assessment and modelling. Quantity and location of domestic waste emissions to European freshwaters are provided for 1990, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, and 2016. Specifically, the dataset reports mean annual domestic waste emissions in terms of Population Equivalent (PE), and loads (t/y) of total Nitrogen, total Phosphorus, and 5-days Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). The assessment for 1990-2010 is based on population density, national statistics data, and population diet. The assessment of 2016 includes also information of the Urban Waste water Treatment Directive database with location of waste water treatment plants discharge points.
The spatial resolution and extent of the analysis corresponded to the CCM2 River and Catchment Database for Europe. Data distribution provided as attribute table of CCM 2.1 elementary catchment polygons.
