资源简介:

The Pensioners' Incomes (PI) Series contains estimates of the levels, sources and distribution of pensioners' incomes. It also examines the position of single pensioners and pensioner couples, including any dependent children, within the income distribution of the population as a whole. This differs from Households Below Average Income (HBAI) (see SN 5828), where analysis is on a household basis, and includes the income of adults not in the pensioner unit but living in the same household.

The PI series is a key source of information used to inform Government thinking on relevant policies, as well as related programmes and projects. Researchers and analysts outside government use the statistics and data to examine topics such as ageing, the distributional impacts of fiscal policies and the income profiles of pensioner groups. The PI estimates are normally based on a sample of around 7,000 adults who are over State Pension age and reside in private households in the United Kingdom, taken from the Family Resources Survey (FRS).

Annual reports and accompanying tables, research and technical papers for PI are available on the Pensioners' Incomes Series Statistics GOV.UK webpage.

The UK Data Service currently holds the PI series from 2008/09 onwards (2007/08 for the restricted-access Safe Room version - see SN 7196). PI data are also available from 1994/95 onwards via the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Stat-Xplore online tool.

Latest edition information

For the fifth edition (May 2023) data and documentation for 2021/22 have been added to the study.
