Dataset for Visualising Space and Time in the Greek Mythic Storyworld

This dataset is based on data from MANTO downloaded April 2nd, 2025, and finalized May 15th, 2025, used in the project "Visualising Space and Time in the Greek Mythic Storyworld" and its related works. It is a collection of data from Pausanias' Periegesis, and it includes temporal attributes for agents and collectives that are not included in the standard published data from MANTO. The original data was manipulated in various ways to make it operable within GIS softwares in order to produce cartographic visualisations. These manipulations included separating and consolidating MANTO's prescribed geometry into discrete latitudinal and longitudinal columns, eliminating duplicate entity-entitry relationships where applicable and converting these duplicates into a quantified column ("Ties_Count") used for weighting heat map intensity, and normalizing the additional temporal attributes (called generations) and converting these strings into arbitrary yet proportional timestamps readable by GIS software. As stated, this data was used to produce the visualisations found in the project's StoryMap webpage: https://arcg.is/15WzqT6. As such, this dataset is organized based on the two main categories of these visualisations found in the StoryMap, which focused on (1) generational mythic space and time, and (2) mythographic space. The first category includes .csv's of both the unmanipulated and manipulated versions of its respective dataset, while the second includes both point-type geometry contained in a .csv and multiline-type geometry in respective .json files. In addition to the visualisations, the aformentioned StoryMap (https://arcg.is/15WzqT6) also includes more information on MANTO and its ontology, the data collection of Pausanias, an explanation on the data's temporal attributes, and the methodology of the visualisations.
