Linking Human Bacteriome, Mycobiome, and Metabolic Profile

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus has reached epidemic levels globally, and several studies have confirmed a link between gut microbial dysbiosis and aberrant glucose homeostasis among people with diabetes. While the assumption is that abnormal metabolomic signatures would often accompany microbial dysbiosis, few studies have attempted to establish this connection. In this study, we analyzed 16?S rRNA and ITS2-gene-based sequencing data and their metabolic profiles from stool samples of patients with or without diabetes based on their dietary profiles. We determined differences in the composition of gut bacterial and fungal communities in connection with the metabolic profile based on disease status and diet.
