资源简介:

This study presents findings from a field-based survey conducted across 16 regions to assess rice production conditions, pest challenges, and farmer management practices. A total of 98 farmer fields were evaluated, and structured questionnaires were administered to 486 rice farmers to collect data on agronomic practices, pest occurrence, input use, and access to extension services. The survey provided a broad representation of rice-growing environments and management systems across the study areas. Field observations and farmer responses identified insect pests as a major constraint to rice productivity, with particular emphasis on the yellow sugarcane aphid (Sipha flava). This pest was reported in multiple regions and was associated with visible symptoms such as leaf yellowing, chlorosis, and drying, which reduce photosynthetic efficiency and overall plant vigor. In heavily infested fields, farmers reported noticeable yield declines. The occurrence and severity of infestation were often linked to dry conditions and high nitrogen fertilizer application, which favor rapid aphid population growth. The study found that farmer knowledge of pest identification and management varied considerably across regions. While some farmers practiced early monitoring and applied control measures, many relied on reactive approaches, often applying pesticides after severe infestation had occurred. Limited access to extension services and inadequate training on integrated pest management contributed to inconsistent and sometimes ineffective control practices.
