SESC satellite broadcasting 10-year plan

Within 10 years Space Environment Services Center will have a fully operational satellite broadcast system, capable of delivering alerts, forecasts, Indices, and data In real time, on a 24-hour basis, to the continental United States Including parts of Hawaii, and some of Canada and Mexico. The rationale for a 10-year plan is as follows: A. This broadcast system utilizes proven state-of-the-art technology. B. There is tremendous potential for geographic expansion to other countries. C. Receipt and distribution of data are convenient and economical. The small receive dish Is easy to set up with a compass and Inclinometer. The highly versatile industry-standard RS-232 Interface permits data output to almost any printer, videoscreen, or computer. D. The speed of service Is excellent. Operational real-time decisions can be made based on broadcast solar-geophysical information. E. The overall cost is reasonable. If the trend in government services continues toward a cost recovery basis, the satellite broadcast system could probably pay for Itself. F. The format and type of data broadcast is flexible and can be changed to meet customer demands.
