The Laboratory of Marine Resarch (Zoological Institute of the Russiand Academy
of Sciences) has setup a series of databases on Antartic Marine Biodiversity.
The databases focus on taxonomy, biogeography, phylogeny and ecology of
Antarctic marine invertebrates.
The collections deposited in the Laboratory are the largest in Russia. They
contain more than 15,000 species and about 1,700,000 items. MANFA is part of
the Census of Antarctic Marine Life (CAML) which investigates the distribution
and abundance of Antarctica's vast biodiversity to develop a benchmark for
assessing effects of climate change. MANFA data will be made accessible through
SCAR-MarBIN.
