ASSOCIATION AND EPISTASIS ANALYSES OF OBESITY-RELATED GENES IN OSTEOPOROSIS

Obesity-related genes such as LEP, LEPR, ADIPOQ, and FTO play important roles in bone and both diseases are linked through metabolic processes. Our study focuses on Mexican women, a group with a distinct genetic background and environmental exposures that may influence osteoporosis susceptibility. In this case-control study included 365 patients with osteoporosis; eight single nucleotide variants in the LEP, LEPR, ADIPOQ, and FTO genes were genotyped. They did not show independent associations but also interacted significantly with each other, and with key environmental factors. These findings provide a deeper understanding of osteoporosis and obesity relationship in determining osteoporosis risk, offering new insights into its biological complexity.
