由中国林业出版社于1992年出版的《中国森林昆虫》(第二版)是有关森林保护的重要理论专著。它系统总结了1990年以前中国森林昆虫的研究成果。全书分总论和各论两大部分。总论介绍了中国森林昆虫的研究状况和中国森林昆虫5发生与危害情况， 论述了昆虫的结构， 昆虫的发育和行为， 昆虫的分类， 森林害虫发生与环境的关系， 森林昆虫种群及其动态， 森林昆虫群落， 森林害虫预测预报， 森林害虫防治原理与方法， 森林害虫综合管理等。各论部分按分类系统排列， 分别论述了与森林有关的昆虫纲的直翅目、竹节虫目、网翅目、等翅目、同翅目、异翅目、蓟马目、脉翅目、鞘翅目、双翅目、鳞翅目、膜翅目等12个目， 螨类的真螨目， 共计收入13目141科824种昆虫(含螨类)。每种昆虫分别记述了分布、寄主、形态特征、生物学特性， 并按科或属记述了防治方法以及天敌的保护和利用。该专著具有如下几个突出特点

Forest Insects of China (2nd Edition), published by China Forestry Publishing House in 1992, is an important theoretical monograph on forest protection. It systematically summarizes the research achievements on forest insects in China prior to 1990. The book is divided into two main sections: the General Introduction and the Systematic Accounts.

The General Introduction introduces the research progress of forest insects in China, as well as their occurrence and damage patterns. It also covers insect morphology, insect development and behavior, insect taxonomy, the relationship between forest pest outbreaks and environmental factors, forest insect populations and their dynamics, forest insect communities, forecast and early warning of forest pests, principles and methods of forest pest control, and integrated pest management (IPM) for forest pests, among other topics.

The Systematic Accounts are arranged according to taxonomic classifications, and separately discuss 12 orders of Insecta associated with forest ecosystems: Orthoptera, Phasmatodea, Dictyoptera, Isoptera, Homoptera, Heteroptera, Thysanoptera, Neuroptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, Lepidoptera and Hymenoptera, plus the Acariformes order of mites. In total, 824 insect species (including mites) belonging to 13 orders and 141 families are documented in this section.

For each species, details on its distribution, hosts, morphological characteristics and biological traits are provided, while control methods as well as the protection and utilization of natural enemies are recorded at the family or genus level. This monograph has several prominent distinguishing features.
