Mycoplasma hyorhinis strain MCLD was isolated from the melanoma cell line LB33 mel A1. (Eur. J. Immunol. 2004. 34: 2032-2040). Mycoplasma hyorhinis is a major contaminator of cell cultures, which impinges on many aspects of biological research . Although Mycoplasmas are considered typical extracellular microorganism that are able to adhere to epithelial cells recent studies revealed that M. hyorhinis MCLD resides within host cells and strongly suggest that the interaction of this microorganisms with cell cultures may upregulate the espression of host genes.
