Lake, stream, and soil water isotopes in Iceland (2002-2004, 2014, 2019-2020)

Water isotopes (Hydrogen and Oxygen) were measured in lakes (n=135), surface soils (n=23) and streams (n=13) from across Iceland in the years 2002-2004, 2014, and 2019-2020. Lake water isotopes include samples from summer and winter seasons and from surface and bottom waters. Soil water isotopes were collected from surface soils and integrate the upper 10 centimeters (cm) of soil. Streams were measured from most sites as single samples, although one site has a biweekly time series that spans most of the year in 2002. Water isotopes were analyzed at the Institute of Arctic and Alpine Research - University of Colorado Boulder's Stable Isotope Laboratory (lake and stream) and the University of Utah's Stable Isotope Research Facility (soil). These modern data assist research focused on the development of organic proxies to reconstruct past changes in precipitation amount and precipitation-evaporation balance. In addition, they will be useful for hydrological research focused on the use of water isotope tracing in Iceland.
