## **Abstract** \n\nThis dataset and its metadata statement were supplied to the Bioregional Assessment Programme by a third party and are presented here as originally supplied.\n\n\n\nThis Water Management Area layer was provided by the South Australian Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) to the Water Resource Assessment team in the Bureau of Meteorology. The Water Management Area layer shows all regions in South Australia that are prescribed. Prescription is a means by which water resources can be sustainably managed to provide security for all water users, now and into the future.\n\n\n\nOnce a water resource is prescribed, a water allocation plan is prepared by the relevant regional natural resources management board. The plan contains the criteria by which decisions about the allocation, transfer and use of water are made. Among other things, this plan influences the conditions that are attached to any water licences that are issued. The water allocation plan is prepared in close consultation with the community and is adopted by the relevant Minister.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nThis layer includes all regions in South Australia that require surface water and groundwater management.
