ETJ Other Cities

Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) is an area of land that surrounds a municipality's corporate limits. It allows the city to regulate planning and development activity as the area becomes urban and ultimately is annexed into the city. The ETJ process recognizes the long-term need for an urban area to develop with a consistent set of standards and zoning decisions. Application of ETJ allows the city's standards to be applied during the urbanization of the area rather than after, when much of the development and construction of thr infrastructure has already taken place.
