Thawing rates of frozen soil were examined in four centrifuge tests on the 1-m radius centrifuge at the Center for Geotechnical Modeling at UC Davis. The four hypergravity tests were conducted at 25-g as follows: Two tests were conducted using a loose (40% relative density) F65 Ottawa Sand model that was tested with and without insulation. The other two tests were conducted using a dense (80% relative density) F65 Ottawa Sand model that was also tested with and without insulation. Lastly, thawing rates for the dense model were recorded in a non-enhanced gravitational field for the insulated and uninsulated configuration.
