We tested the influence of three different tundra plant species (Salix pulchra, Betula nana, and Ledum palustre) on the soil microbial community composition in bulk organic, mineral and rhizosphere soils. We used stable isotope techniques to study carbon transfer from plants labeled with 13CO2 in situ to the soil microbial community, and PLFA analysis to test the resulting effect on the microbial community composition.
