Dataset used for studying the protective mechanism of <i>Pholcus phalangioides </i>and <i>Uloborus plumipes</i> against the adhesion of cribellar capture threads. For this study we washed dissected legs of both species with n-hexane, water or left them untreated and then compared indirectly the force needed to detach the leg from a cribellar thread, spun by <i>U. plumipes</i>, among the different treatments. We did so by applying a leg to a cribellar capture thread, then pulling the leg off the thread while filming with a high speed camera. The bending distance of the thread to the point where it detached from the leg was need as indirect measurement for the force of adhesion.Explanation of header:<b>nr:</b> number of measurementtreatment: u = untreated, h = washed with n-hexane, w = washed with water.<b>frames:</b> number of frames recorded by the high speed camera until the leg detached from the thread. Frames per second = 500, pull-off velocity = 20mm/s, acceleration = 6 m/s2.<b>ind: </b>individual spiders, from each individual 3 legs were used<b>leg:</b> position of leg on the animal. In <i>P. phalangioides</i> we used both front legs (leg 1) and one second leg (leg 2), in <i>U. plumipes </i> both hind legs (leg 4) and one second leg (leg 2) was used.<b>web: </b>each web, spun by <i>U. plumipes, </i>was used for 3 measurements. Legs of web-producers were never tested in their own web.<b>thread: </b>the order, in which the threads were cut out of the web. This is stated because the web might loose tension during the process of cutting out threads and therefore thread 1 might have a different tension than thread 3.<b>mm: </b>distance where the leg detached from the thread. This is calculated by multiplying the number of frames by the pull-off velocity (20mm/s) and dividing it by the frame-rate (500 FPS).<b>species: </b>either <i>Pholcus phalangioides </i>or <i>Uloborus plumipes</i> was used.<br>
