Colletotrichum higginsianum IMI 349063 genome sequencing project

Colletotrichum higginsianum causes anthracnose disease on many species of Brassicaceae, including Arabidopsis thaliana. The fungal infection process combines both biotrophic and necrotrophic stages and involves morphogenesis of a series of specialised cell types. The fungus can also be cultured in vitro and genetically transformed. The Colletotrichum-Arabidopsis interaction is therefore an important model pathosystem for studying the molecular basis of fungal pathogenicity and plant responses.
