The Department of Sustainability and Environment is Victoria's primary\ngovernment agency responsible for promoting and managing the sustainability of\nthe natural environment. \n \nThe Department's primary functions are: \n• public land stewardship across forests, parks, coasts, alpine resorts and\nCrown land reserves; \n• promotion of sustainable resource use and management practices by industry\nand the general community; \n• public land fire management; \n• water management; \n• ecosystem and biodiversity conservation; and \n• environmental and climate change policy. \n \nThe Department's objectives and linked outputs are grouped into Effective\nWater Management and Supply, Effective Management of Victoria's Land Assets,\nEffective Environmental and Climate Change Policy, Investment and Regulation,\nand Effective Management of Fire.
