Monthly Gold and Silver Prices in USD per Troy Ounce (1970–2026) — AlyawmGold

This dataset contains 681 consecutive monthly observations of gold (XAU) and silver (XAG) prices, covering January 1970 through September 2026. Each observation contains the month and the source-reported monthly average for each metal, quoted in nominal US dollars per troy ounce. The download is a single UTF-8 JSON file. It contains three fields per observation: month, gold_average_usd_per_ounce, and silver_average_usd_per_ounce. Metadata in the same file records coverage, units, source URLs, retrieval timestamps, and methodological notes. The dataset was assembled from AlyawmGold's monthly history endpoints, supplemented by direct Gold API monthly averages for June–September 2026. June–August were missing from the website export; the direct September average replaced a calculated website fallback. Source-reported averages were preserved rather than recalculated from the daily series. The file contains completed UTC calendar months only, with no interpolation or currency conversion. It excludes the unfinished month of October 2026. Preparation checks cover JSON parsing, chronological ordering, unique and consecutive months, record counts, and positive numeric prices. Exported price values were reconciled with the collected source responses. This verifies the export against its sources; it does not independently certify the accuracy of every historical source observation or establish a uniform averaging method across the full series. Comparison with World Bank monthly reference data flagged differences above 5% for gold in December 1980 and July 1983, and silver in December 2025. These are unresolved comparison differences, not confirmed errors. The original source values are retained and the differences are disclosed in the file notes. The World Bank series is a comparison reference, not a replacement source for these values. Potential uses include historical visualization, exploratory analysis, and comparison of monthly gold and silver trends. The prices are monthly averages, not month-end closing prices, intraday quotes, local dealer prices, or inflation-adjusted values.
