Year 1 STAAR Data for Participating Classrooms

The project will collect State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) data from Galveston ISD for the participating classrooms. STAAR is a set of criterion-referenced exams that assess students’ mastery of core academic curricula. Texas school districts received these data from the state in late June, and district offices close during July. We have requested this data from the participating school, and the administrators have responded that they will provide it as soon as they are able to. We have requested classroom-level STAAR data for science, literacy, and math. The evaluation plan includes identifying STAAR assessment items across academic areas that are relevant to the project’s civic science engagement. Each classroom’s percentage correct on the relevant items will be compared with campus, district, and state performance (all available in the data reporting from the state). Assuming that the district provides these data by August 15, 2026, the data spreadsheet and analysis should be completed and uploaded by August 31, 2026.
