STM Graphite Atomic Lattice — Kikoh Matsuura (Art–Science Archive)

This dataset was acquired using a Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM, Nanosurf NaioSTM) personally owned and operated by the artist, Kikoh Matsuura, as part of his art-science practice. Atomic lattices of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) were imaged in ambient air at room temperature, with scan sizes of 0.824 nm, 2.12 nm, 2.52 nm, and 3.3 nm. The dataset includes PNG images (with and without scale bars) and raw `.nid` files that can be reanalyzed using Nanosurf software. The atomic lattice reveals the intrinsic order and beauty of matter at its smallest scale. These measurements were conducted as part of his art-science practice, where empirical scientific data serve both as visual material and as a conceptual foundation for spatial artworks.
