Discharge Cycling: An Approximation to Hospitalization Waiting Times from the Emergency Department in a Chilean Public Institution

This dataset contains data from an observational descriptive study conducted to measure the times involved in bed management in the medicine and surgery services of Las Higueras Hospital (HLH) in Talcahuano, Chile. The study was carried out for 14 continuous days (24 hours a day) , between August 26 and September 8, 2024. The data were collected by four trained nursing professionals and measure four key bed cycle times: 1. Bed Vacancy (from medical discharge to the patient's exit from the bed) , 2. Transfer (from the bed assignment to the patient's arrival at the bed in the destination service) , 3. Bed Occupancy (from the hospitalization indication to effective occupancy) , and 4. Empty Bed (lapse between the patient's departure and occupation by the new user). The final analysis focuses on 42 bed units that had complete data and were intended for patients from the emergency department
