Mid-Miocene to recent tectonic evolution of the Punta Stilo Swell (southern Italy): an effect of the Calabrian Arc migration

An integration of Low-resolution 2D multichannel seismic reflection profiles, well logs and high-resolution multibeam echosounder (HR-MBES) was used to reconstruct the Mid-Miocene to recent tectonic evolution of the Punta Stilo Swell (PSS), a submerged morphological high located on Ionian side of the Calabrian Arc (S Italy). Correlations between the structural evolution of the PSS and Mediterranean-scale geodynamic-scale were made. A possible between the present-day morphology of the PSS and the deep-buried tectonic structures was also evaluated. Low-resolution 2D seismic data were used to study the deep-buried tectonic structures and calibrated with well logs. HR-MBES data were interpreted to analyse seabed morphology. The integration of such dataset permitted to associate the origin of the PSS to the the framework of Calabrian Arc migration and Thyrrenhyan oceanization, and controlled the present-day morphology.
