This project investigated the prokaryotic and eukaryotic communities associated with marine nematodes from three distinct geographic regions including the Arctic, Gulf of Mexico, and Southern California. Nematodes were collected from frozen sediment samples and DNA was extracted from each worm using a lysis buffer. 16S (V4 region) and 18S (V1-V2 region) ribosomal genes were amplified and sequenced on the Illumina MiSeq platform (2x300). Our project aimed to characterize the microbial diversity associated with single marine nematodes and test whether this diversity varies according to ocean basin, taxonomy, and trophic group.
