The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway is frequently activated in breast cancer, and several inhibitors targeting this signaling axis have become standard-of-care treatments for breast cancer. However, low response rate and acquired resistance to PI3K/AKT/mTOR inhibitors have remained major problems in patient treatment. Therefore, it is crucial to identify the molecular determinants involved in PI3K/AKT/mTOR inhibition response in breast cancer. In this study, we aim to identify mTOR inhibitor (mTORi) resistance factors with clinical potential for patient stratification in breast cancer.
