Microbial Ecology of equatorial Lewis Glacier, Kenya

Equatorial glaciers are rapidly disappearing with a few surviving in the sub-tropical Eastern Africa. The rapid loss threatens the glacier biodiversity that is not yet exploited in the surviving Sub-tropical African glacier. The main aim of the project was to determine the diversity and abundance of Prokaryotes in Lewis Glacier of Mount Kenya using the next generation sequencing techniques. The microbial isolates from such ecosystem are also conserved for subsequent analyses and reference.
