The data in this dataset is sourced from the Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolution Geography Database (GSHHG) of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The Global Self-consistent, Hierarchical, High-resolution Geography Database (GSHHG) is a high-resolution geographic dataset compiled by merging two databases: the World Vector Shoreline (WVS) and the CIA World Data Bank II (WDBII). The former provides foundational data for coastlines, while the latter serves as the basis for lake features. The WDBII source also supplies political boundaries and rivers. GSHHG data has undergone processing and inspection to eliminate internally inconsistent points and intersecting segments. All coastlines are entirely composed of hierarchically arranged closed polygons.
