Allt Yr Esgair Hillfort, Bwlch, Brecon

Located above the Usk Valley near Bwlch, Brecon, Allt Yr Esgair Hillfort extends NW-SE along a narrow ridge for 755 metres and is 150 metres in width at its widest point. The defences enclose just over 9 hectares of land. The hillfort remains and development are complex, perhaps extending to four phases. From the north west a large double banked enclosure extends south east with entrances at either end. This is later extended to the south east with an additional enclosure and gateway. Surrounding the highest point (topped by a ruinous undated stone cairn) there is at least one other enclosure, possibly two, inside the main early hillfort. Within the larger of these two internal enclosures at the western edge of the summit is an additional small semi-circular enclosure of probable later date, perhaps Romano-British or post-Roman. The sequence is complicated by some undated stone quarrying of the sandstone outcrops which may have been dug through one of the inner enclosure ditches. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
