Analyzing orbital and spin magnetic moments in magnetic Rashba interfaces based on Graphene-Ferromagnet

We aim at investigating the role of orbital and spin magnetic moments in epitaxial graphene (Gr)/Ferromagnet (FM)/heavy-metal (HM) structures (with FM=Fe, Co and HM=Pt, Ir) grown on Al2O3(0001) with different non-magnetic (NM) capping layer (NM= Pt, Al, Ta, TaOx, AlOx ..). NM/Gr/HM is a double Rashba interface able to efficiently convert spin current to charge current via a Rashba-Edelstein Effect (REE) and displays a sizeable interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI). In this proposal, we propose to carry out room temperature in-plane and out-of-plane magnetic field dependence measurements at the Fe,Co-L2,3 edge by means of X-ray absorption (XAS) and magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) measurements under different applied magnetic fields, in order to detect the variation of the (orbital and spin) magnetic moments in remanence and saturation magnetizations states. The results will be correlated with the work function (WF), interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and spin-charge interconversion efficiencies, as obtained by our laboratory based experiments.
