Understanding how parity shapes the maternal microbiota is critical, as it has potential implications for maternal health and offspring development. However, our study highlights the limitations of using mice to study these effects. While maternal age strongly influenced microbiota diversity and composition, parity and pregnancy gaps showed minimal impact. By sharing these findings, we aim to guide future research toward models and designs better suited to addressing these important questions.
