Goldenrod rhizosphere microbiome over oldfield succession

We surveyed the rhizospheres of goldenrod plants, Solidago altissima (Asteraceae), over the first 14 years of oldfield succession (post-maize agriculture) in a large scale field experiment in Brooktondale, NY, USA, over two field seasons (2016 and 2017). In order to examine the effects of microbial community shifts over succession on goldenrod plant phenotypes, we performed a microbiome transplant experiment in which we inoculated goldenrod plants in a greenhouse with soil from either the 2nd, 6th or 15th year of succession and characterized the plant phenotypes. This project includes rhizosphere microbiome samples from both the field survey and the greenhouse microbiome transplant experiment.
