Family-based Analysis of Allele-Specific Expression Reveals Mostly Simple, Intermediate-type of Inheritance

Allele-Specific Expression (ASE) phenomenon is widespread in diploids and can be used to infer the acting variants in cis-regulatory elements. Detecting ASE can be done by counting RNA-seq reads, which always requires existing variations in the transcribed region. Another method is RNA and genome sequencing of many individuals, which is not cost-effective. We introduce a family-based experimental approach for finding ASE and possible cis-acting elements to avoid these limitations.
