KalpaDB: Indian Speculative Fiction Database

KalpaDB is an open, structured database of Indian speculative fiction — science fiction, fantasy, and horror — with an initial focus on Bengali-language works. This dataset is version 1.0, a snapshot of the public catalogue at https://kalpadb.com taken on 17 June 2026. It contains 267 book editions, 108 people credited on those works (authors, editors, translators, illustrators, and cover artists), and 94 publishers and imprints. Each of the three entities is provided in two formats: CSV (flattened for spreadsheets, with multi-valued fields joined by " | ") and JSON (richer, with nested arrays and objects such as each book's list of physical/digital formats). Records include titles in the original Bengali script, authorship and publisher credits, series and edition information, publication years, and bibliographic details where known. Many titles are out-of-print classics whose metadata is otherwise scattered or undocumented, and the database aims to preserve and make this information openly reusable. Genre tagging is still in progress, so genre coverage in v1.0 is limited and will expand in future versions. No personal or user data is included — only the public catalogue.
