Assessing shrub encroachment impacts on surface properties and landscape patterns in semi-arid grasslands using multi-source remote sensing

We systematically assess how shrub encroachment modifies fractional vegetation cover (FVC), land surface temperature (LST), evapotranspiration (ET), and landscape metrics at 1-km and 3-km scales. We assessed different degrees of shrub encroachment, including slight shrub encroachment (< 40%), moderate shrub encroachment (40% - 60%), and severe shrub encroachment (> 80%). The basic land use/cover data is from our previous study Lv et.al (2024) (10.5281/zenodo.17156609). We analyzed the effects of different degrees of shrub encroachment on FVC, LST, ET, and landscape metrics. We demonstrated that slight shrub encroachment enhanced FVC and ET, while severe shrub encroachment reversed these effects. Results are uploaded and downloaded freely. Here are some details for files: grids.zip: It contains two grid files at 1-km and 3-km spatial resolution and FVC, LST, and ET are calculated under 1-km grids and landscape metrics is calculated using 3-km grid. grid_results.zip: The zip file contains results of FVC, LST, ET, and landscape metrics.
