ETHICAL CHALLENGES OF AI CHATBOTS IN ENGLISH EDUCATION

This article examines the ethical challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots in English language education. The growing integration of AI-powered chatbots into educational environments provides learners with opportunities for personalized practice, instant feedback, interactive communication, and independent learning. However, their widespread use also raises important ethical concerns related to academic integrity, data privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency, digital dependency, and the potential reduction of human interaction in the learning process. The study analyzes the major ethical issues that may arise when AI chatbots are used by English language learners and teachers. Particular attention is given to the responsible use of AI, protection of students’ personal data, prevention of plagiarism and excessive reliance on automated responses, and the role of teachers in maintaining pedagogical and ethical standards.
