Attitudes to the political system. Topics: Moral orientation and
important things in life (scale); participation at the last Federal
Parliament election; behavior at the polls (second vote); interest in
politics; sympathy scale for the parties; postmaterialism; satisfaction
with social security, democracy and the market economy in the Federal
Republic; potential and actual political participation; contacts with
authorities; judgement on conduct of workers in government offices;
trust in political institutions, public facilities, organizations,
associations and media; conventional political participation (scale);
frequency of reading newspaper and use of news broadcasts on
television; self-classification on a left-right continuum; attitude to
democracy as conception of a state and socialism as idea; attitude
regarding democratic elements of society such as e.g. freedom of
speech, the right to strike, opposition and conflict solution; fair
share of national product; political effectiveness (political
efficacy); attitude regarding life and society (scale); memberships in
trade union, occupation organization, employer association or clubs;
judgement on general and personal economic situation; judgement on
unity as personal gain; estimate of time of equalization of incomes in
East and West; employment in civil service; living together with a
partner; religiousness; party preference (Sunday question); most
important criteria in party preference; strength and length of party
inclination; possession of a telephone. In the eastern part the
following additional question was posed: preference for a West party
before the turning point. Interviewer rating: presence of third persons
during interview and their intervention in the course of the survey;
willingness of respondent to cooperate; reliability of respondent;
length of interview; date of interview.
