Polyphasic characterization of Acidovorax ebreus sp. nov., a nitrate-reducing iron-oxidizing bacterium isolated from a paddy soil

Acidovorax ebreus LS1, a unique bacterium that was isolated from paddy soil showed the ability of nitrate-reducing Fe(II) oxidation under anoxic conditions. As revealed by phylogenetic analysis, the 16S rRNA gene sequence of strain LS1T only showed a similarity of 96.9% with Acidovorax wautersii NF 1078T, a type strain in Acidovorax genus. On the basis of the phylogenetic, phenotypic, chemotaxonomic, and genomic characteristics, strain LS1T represents a novel species of the genus Acidovorax, with the name Acidovorax ebreus sp. nov. being proposed.
