NdOs2SiC crystallizes in the orthorhombic Cmcm space group. The structure is three-dimensional. Nd3+ is bonded in a distorted rectangular see-saw-like geometry to four equivalent C4- atoms. All Nd–C bond lengths are 2.74 Å. Os+1.50- is bonded in a 1-coordinate geometry to three equivalent Si4+ and one C4- atom. All Os–Si bond lengths are 2.52 Å. The Os–C bond length is 1.90 Å. Si4+ is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six equivalent Os+1.50- atoms. C4- is bonded to four equivalent Nd3+ and two equivalent Os+1.50- atoms to form a mixture of edge and corner-sharing CNd4Os2 octahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 23°.
