Cathode materials with antiperovskite structure (APs), as exemplified by a group of compounds Li2TMChO (TM = Mn, Fe, Co, …, Ch
= S, Se), have recently shown to be promising candidates for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) (Figure 1 a, e). This class of materials have drawn
significant attention due to cation disordering behavior enabling fast Li diffusion, high capacity, chemical flexibility, and simplicity of
preparation.1
The aim of this proposal is to continue the study of APs to extend this chemistry for Na-ion batteries (NIBs). By the combination of ex situ and
operando X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy, we will gain in-depth understanding of in situ formation of Na analogues of Li2FeSO and a
comprehensive understanding of the operating mechanism of APs in NIBs.
